Position description
The Department of Statistics and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at the University of California, Berkeley, invite applications for a joint tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. This position is expected to be 50% time in each of the Departments of EECS and Statistics, although an appointment at different percentages can be made by mutual agreement.
This position aims to build upon Berkeley’s legacy at the intersection of statistics and computer science in the areas of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). We seek exceptional candidates who will expand our strength in shared research areas of critical need, Trustworthy AI and Foundations of Statistical ML and AI, while supporting undergraduate and graduate teaching in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML).
About the Statistics Department:
The Berkeley Department of Statistics is part of the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS). It is consistently ranked as a top program in Statistics internationally. Since the inception of the Department in 1955, graduates and faculty of Berkeley have shaped the foundations and applications of Statistics, Data Science, and Machine Learning. The department is proud of our interdisciplinary and collaborative nature, with many faculty and students collaborating across fields such as biomedicine, public health, neuroscience, physical sciences, the social sciences, and computer science.
About the EECS Department:
The EECS department is part of the College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS). It offers one of the strongest research and instructional programs in this field anywhere in the world. Our key strength is our array of cross-disciplinary, team-driven projects. The integration of EE and CS forms the core, with strong interactions that extend into many other disciplines.

Qualifications
PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

This can include, for example, past efforts and future plans to support the success of all students, and to foster an inclusive research mentoring environment that removes barriers and promotes equitable access and advancement of the research program. Service Statement - Please discuss specific prior and proposed academic, professional and/or public service activities.
