Position description
The position will involve working with the UC Berkeley and LBL nuclear theory groups as well as students and faculty of the campus-based Physics Frontier Center N3AS. Interests of the nuclear groups include lattice QCD, many-body theory, fundamental symmetries, nuclear astrophysics, high energy heavy ion collisions, and the physics of the EIC. N3AS research focuses on multi-messenger astrophysics, specifically the coupled neutrino, dense matter, and nucleosynthetic problems that arise in studies of core-collapse supernovae and neutrino star mergers.
This position will apply techniques from high-performance computing to optimize the execution of Lattice Quantum chromodynamics codes on massively parallel machines. Duties include:
- Building an interface between two-nucleon eigenvalues found in finite-volume Lattice Quantum chromodynamics and effective theory formulations valid in infinite volume
- The application of Harmonic Oscillator-Based Effective Theory to bound and scattering problems involving three or more nucleons
- Providing support for research and professional development activities for UC Berkeley's N3AS undergraduate research program
