Position description

The Nutritional Sciences & Toxicology Department at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Assistant/Associate Project Scientist in the Sona Kang Lab. The Assistant or Associate Project Scientist will be supporting our new project which involves investigating the pathogenic mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and CRISPR screening.

Responsibilities:

The position will contribute in three major ways 1) CRISPR screening study design and experiment, follow-up studies of top candidates in vitro and in vivo, 2) animal studies (mouse maintenance, metabolic characterization, mechanistic studies), 3) cell based experiments, and 4) mentoring junior lab members.
The position will keep detailed records of experiments performed, conclusions made, and communication of results orally and through lab notebook records.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.

Preferred qualifications
  • Self-motivated with the ability to think critically and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Technical expertise, such as metabolic characterization of mouse models, cell culture studies, and/or biochemical and molecular studies.
  • Expertise in one of the following areas are desirable: molecular and cell biology, metabolic phenotyping of mouse models, and genome-wide profiling studies.
  • Experience in liver biology and CRISPR screening.
