Position description

The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist in the Luan Lab, in the area of protein biochemistry and cell biology of plants studying plant responses to environmental stresses.

The Luan lab studies signal transduction mechanisms underlying plant responses to changing environments by using genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology tools. In addition, we apply structural analysis of proteins and their interactions to understand the interplay of proteins in particular signaling processes.

Responsibilities:
The position will contribute in three major ways:
1) designing and executing experiments using Arabidopsis as a model plant, genotyping (by PCR), and phenotyping plants with genetic alterations,
2) biochemical assays (immunoblotting and in vitro enzyme assays), and
3) DNA/RNA manipulation and cloning.

Further responsibilities include analyzing data and preparing papers for publication in journals and presentation at conferences
The position will keep detailed records of experiments performed, conclusions made, and communication of results orally and through lab notebook records.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD (or equivalent international degree)

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Minimum of 2 years of research experience post PhD.

Preferred qualifications
  • 4 years Post PhD experience
  • experience with model plants such as Arabidopsis, biochemical approaches to identify and characterize proteins, and genetics
  • excellent writing and communication skills
  • a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
