Position description
Berkeley Teacher Education Program (BTEP) Faculty Advisors (formally titled Supervisors of Teacher Education) support the learning of teacher education students through teaching, field support, and cycles of reflection and improvement. They participate in program development and relationship building with local schools, districts, and communities. Faculty Advisors support a cohort of graduate students as they engage in coursework and fieldwork leading to a preliminary teaching credential and a Master’s degree in Education. They teach the field practicum course, participate in committees that focus on the activities and goals of the teacher education program, and support or teach other methods or theory-focused teacher education courses.
Faculty Advisors must have a demonstrated commitment to educational equity and justice, a strong track-record in K-12 schooling and teacher education, and a critical understanding of how blending theory and practice improves outcomes for teacher candidates, teachers and K-12 students. In addition, Faculty Advisors must show excellence in teaching both adult learners and beginning teachers.
Additional compensation will be provided for work with cohorts before the start of the fall semester and after the end of the spring semester.
Potential Faculty Advisors should be credentialed and/or have substantive expertise in any of the following BTEP program pathways:
-Elementary / Multiple Subjects
-Secondary English Language Arts
-Secondary Mathematics and Science
-Secondary Social Studies

Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent international degree.
Minimum 5 years teaching experience.
Experience with teacher education and/or professional development including teacher mentoring, teacher coaching, university-based teacher education.
