Berkeley Social Welfare invites applications for a part‐time, non‐tenure track lecturer position to teach a Berkeley Summer Sessions 2019 service learning course that takes place in Oaxaca, Mexico from May 27th to June 29th.

SOC WEL 272‐Health and Human Services in Mexico (also known as Sin Fronteras) is a Berkeley Summer Sessions course that takes place in Oaxaca, Mexico. This service learning course is a comprehensive, integrated learning program intended for Social Work students from Berkeley and other area MSW programs who are interested in deepening their understanding of effective and culturally responsive international social work practice. Through continuous cross‐cultural immersion, Latino and non‐Latino social work students build language skills; study culturally informed and derived engagement and intervention practices; and acquire competencies relevant to preparation for providing social welfare services to Latino clients

Teaching Responsibilities: Attending and participating in our one‐day orientation in April, leading a seminar, attending classes, attending educational tours, leading service learning experiences, holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, coordinating programing with our partner school, collaborating with our partner university .

The minimum qualification required for an applicant to be considered for this position is a Master’s or equivalent international degree.

Additional qualifications required at the time of hire: Candidates wishing to teach Masters‐level social work practice courses are required to have 2 years of post‐Master's experience. All successful candidates will also have experience in teaching and practice experience with multiple diverse populations.

The successful candidate must be able to travel to and live in Oaxaca for five weeks (the duration of the course, May 27th to June 29th, 2019) and be fluent in Spanish.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s or equivalent international degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, or a related field, by time of application. Also preferred is previous experience living and/or working in Latin America.

Salary: The salary range for this three‐unit summer course is $6,021‐$10,890 for the summer term, (prorated from the annual salary range of $54,738‐166,283) salary is determined on level of education and experience (both practice and teaching).
