Description:
The Innovative Genomics Institute at The University of California Berkeley invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Specialist position on an Innovative Genomics Institute project. The work will involve the propagation of rice tissue culture and the delivery of DNA editing reagents into these tissues. Work will involve both plant transformation and the verification of transformation by DNA sequencing.

Responsibilities:
Under the general direction and in consultation with the Supervisor, the employee is responsible for assisting with management and technical support of IGI Agricultural Genomics. The employee will be involved with inter-laboratory collaboration between plant genomics facility and the Staskawicz research laboratory. The employee will produce materials for use in experiments, such as the introduction of DNA and RNPs into plants and regeneration of plants via rice plant tissue culture. The individual will also be involved with genotyping edited plants and keeping an organized notebook.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:
The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree.

Additional Qualifications required by start date:

• At least one year of experience in academic and/or industry plant genomics or transformation lab
• Experience with molecular biology techniques
• Experience with microbiology techniques

Preferred Qualifications by start date:
A Master’s Degree or equivalent international degree.

Appointment: This position reports to Dr. Brian Staskawicz and will be working at the Innovative Genomics Institute at UC Berkeley. The initial appointment is 100% for one (1) year with the expectation of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. The anticipated start date of this position will be December 2018.

Salary: $49,700 to $51,800 annual at 100% time as an Assistant Specialist or $56,400 - $67,900 annual as an Associate Specialist, depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
