Position description

The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a full-time faculty position in the area of Social cultural anthropology, with an expected start date of July 1, 2019. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Senior Assistant Professors should apply to the Assistant recruitment. We are interested in candidates whose theoretical emphases and methodological expertise will complement and expand those of the existing faculty. The successful candidate will conduct multi-scalar research through interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary engagement with the contemporary world. The ideal candidate will engage with critical questions in anthropology, and demonstrate evidence of reflexive attention to the broader context of anthropological research in contemporary society. World area and methodological emphases are open. We are interested in candidates with a demonstrated ability to contribute to our dynamic undergraduate and graduate program in anthropology and commitment to fostering analytical and critical thinking through engaged scholarship. Candidates should have teaching experience in anthropology, with evidence of teaching potential and effectiveness preferred.

Basic qualifications: At the Assistant Professor level, completion of all Ph.D. or equivalent international degree requirements except the dissertation at the time of application. At the Associate Professor level, PhD or equivalent international degree required at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications: At the Assistant Professor level, A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree in the candidate’s field is preferred by the start date.
