DESCRIPTION

The Department of Sociology at University of California at Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach a range of courses in the department should openings arise during the following terms: Summer 2019, Fall 2019, and Spring 2020. This pool will remain open until September 2, 2019 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants. If you wish to remain in the pool after September 2, 2019, you will need to reapply. The position’s duties include: undergraduate and graduate teaching. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), writing exams, and managing GSIs. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed; some appointments may begin in Summer‐2019 term, or Fall‐ 2019 semester, or Spring‐2020. Positions may be part‐time and range from 17% to 100% time, typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Appointments for summer and fall semester are usually reviewed in April, and in October for spring.

Minimum Basic Qualifications Required (at time of application): The minimum qualification required to
be considered an applicant for the position is advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at the time of application.

Preferred Qualification: Ph.D. or equivalent degree at time of appointment.

The salary is commensurate with teaching experience at the university level, and the range currently begins at $54,738 annually for a 100% time appointment.
