Position description

The University Herbarium at the University of California, Berkeley, established in 1895, holds botanical collections from around the world. It is home to research labs, libraries and archives. The University Herbarium at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking applications for aTucker Curator of Lichenology.

The successful candidate will conduct research on the systematics of lichens, lichenicoles, and/or allied fungi in California and beyond, will participate in outreach and educational activities involving lichens, and be responsible for the continued growth and curation of the lichen collection at the University Herbarium. The position is funded by an endowment established by Dr. Shirley Tucker, a distinguished scholar whose accomplishments in lichenology, as well as other areas of botany, have been widely recognized.

We seek candidates who have demonstrated excellence, originality, and productivity in research, along with interest in herbarium collections and public outreach. Ph.D. or equivalent is required by date of hire.

The Tucker Curator of Lichenology will work under the guidance and supervision of the Director of the University Herbarium. This position will be based at the University Herbarium on the Berkeley campus.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications (required at time of application) A Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree.

Additional Qualifications (required by start date)
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in biology, botany, biological science, or a related field.
• Must have no more than 3 years of post PhD experience.
• Strong verbal communications skills and an ability to communicate with people of varying backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a research environment
