The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach Electrical Engineering or Computer Science courses should an opening arise. These are not tenure-track positions - selected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from 25% to 33% time in a given semester. Due to budget restrictions, no funding is available for visa or relocation expenses.
In addition to lecturing responsibilities, general duties for these positions include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.
Basic qualifications: The minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or the completion of all degree requirements, except the dissertation.
Additional qualifications: Completion of all Ph.D. degree requirements before the appointment start date. Experience in the field of Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
Preferred qualifications: Experience in teaching courses in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, particularly courses with 100+ students. Experience managing large course staffs.
Salary is based on degree, previous college level teaching experience, and equity within the department; the starting level is approximately $70,066 annually (full-time rate) for Electrical Engineering lecturers, and $94,231 for Computer Science lecturers.
