The Department of Psychology at UC Berkeley invites applicants to apply for an Assistant Project Scientist position. The Assistant Project Scientist conducts research in vision science and provides significant research support to the Principal Investigator. The position will be responsible for successful operation of research facilities, as well as conducting field and laboratory studies to support research and curriculum development.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Program Psychophysical and other behavioral experiments in Matlab including but not limited to the following types of experiments: method of constant stimuli, method of adjustment, staircase adaptation. Create and manipulate experimental stimuli Matlab.

Perform variety of data analyses and statistical analyses including: parametric and non-parametric measures, fit psychometric functions, and create customized simulations.

Recruit, program, and analyze experiments run online using Amazon Mechanical Turk or similar crowdsourcing platforms. Also conduct laboratory experiments.

Present scientific findings at international academic conferences.

Publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Develop and maintain research collaborations across campus and at international locations, including collaborative experiment design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
At time of application, candidate must have earned a doctorate or equivalent degree in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience or related field.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
By start date of the appointment, selected candidate should have Matlab experience; including the ability to analyze experiments run online using Amazon Mechanical Turk or similar crowd-sourcing platforms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong data and statistical analyses skills including parametric and non-parametric measures, fit psychometric functions, and create customized simulations.

Ability to contribute and collaborate on laboratory intellectual property (including developing research training curricula, visual training software apps, etc.) and liaising with the University and business development partners for such IP.

APPOINTMENT
The anticipated start date for this appointment is Fall 2017. The initial appointment is for 12 months, with renewal based on performance and funding. This is a full-time appointment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $55,700 - $61,800; salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience based on UC Berkeley Project (Scientist) Series salary scale.
