The Graduate School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley, seeks a professor of reporting. The successful candidate will be an accomplished senior reporter, columnist, or news editor who is capable of teaching students with disparate levels of workplace experience.The School is interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, professional work, and service. Skill working in a multimedia news environment is a plus.
In addition to continuing to produce professional works worthy of national recognition, our new professor of reporting will be expected to teach the required J200, Reporting the News course in the fall and two advanced reporting courses in the spring, and to participate in School governance as a full member of the faculty.
This is a full-time, tenured or tenure-track appointment; rank at time of appointment will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The expected start date for this appointment is July 1, 2018.
-Master of Journalism or equivalent degree, or 10 years minimum relevant professional experience at time of application.
-At least five years recent news reporting or editing experience at time of start.
-Demonstrated ability to mentor or teach at the professional level.
-A significant record of accomplishment in publications, recognition and/or impact.
-Experience engaging in larger questions facing the journalism profession, such as bolstering public service reporting.
-Potential to make strong contributions to diversity.
-Expertise in a topical reporting area such as technology reporting, science reporting, etc.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience and will be based on rank and step. This appointment will qualify for University of California health and welfare benefits at the full level.
