Position description

The Department of German at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Modern German Literature, with a preference for Post-War Literature, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018.

Basic qualifications: Applicants must have all Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) requirements completed except the dissertation at the time of application.

Additional qualifications: Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Modern German Literature or related field at the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with near-native fluency in English and German, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level, a well-developed research plan and publication record beyond the dissertation, and the ability to frame their work in the broader context of the humanities. The new colleague will be expected to actively participate in developing an integrative curriculum and strategic vision for the department and teach a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses.
