Assistant/Associate Project Scientist Position – QB3 Institute

Description:

The Assistant/Associate Project Scientist will be responsible for overseeing a team of postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students who are working on “Organ-On-A-Chip” technologies involving genetically defined, human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell derived cells from the heart, liver and white adipose (fat) deposits. The Assistant/Associate Project Scientist will also directly execute experiments on the project. The project involves diverse scientific expertise, including, but not limited to, microfabrication, image processing and computer vision, electrophysiology, molecular biology, stem cell biology, and metabolomics. The project also involves frequent meetings with collaborators and presentations to funding agencies.

Responsibilities:

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: overseeing production of cell cultures for organ-chip experiments (iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts); overseeing micro- fabrication of organ-chip; assisting graduate student researchers (GSRs) and postdoctoral fellows in troubleshooting experiments and analyzing data; drafting manuscripts; presenting results to funding agencies and collaborators. Execution of electrophysiology experiments with organ-chip systems, data analysis and development of new software for more efficient data analysis; writing manuscripts; performing molecular biology analysis of cells grown in organ chips.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:

The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Bioengineering or a related field.

Additional Qualifications:

The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in microfabrication, and intimate knowledge and experience with culture of pluripotent stem cells. Experience with physiology experiments in muscle cells, ideally cardiomyocytes, is also essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidate should have excellent communication skills and experience leading a team of scientists. Previous experience with organ-on-a-chip research and Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells are also ideal.

Salary: This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience. The salary range is $57,900 - $85,600.
