Lecturer Pool-Department of Comparative Literature

The Department of Comparative Literature seeks a pool of part-time, non-tenure track lecturers. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one calendar year. The position will remain open through October 2, 2018 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants. Applicants interested in remaining in the department’s lecturer pool beyond that time must reapply to a new search pool. Typically the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in March and April, and applications for spring teaching in October and November and for the summer in March (if applicable). The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the Comparative Literature department. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester), and appointments may be renewable based on the Program’s need, funding, and on lecturer performance.

Teaching Responsibilities
We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small or medium sized courses in the following areas:
1) Reading and Composition
2) Comparative Literature
3) American Cultures/Comparative Literature (For details on the parameters of American Cultures courses, see

General duties
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.

Minimum Basic Qualifications (by time of application):
The minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is the completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation in Comparative Literature or a related field by the time of application.

Additional Qualifications (by start date): PhD or equivalent degree by the start date Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level in the U.S.

Documented ability to work with texts in more than one language is also required by the start date.

If hired to teach Reading & Composition, demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English.

For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

Salary commensurate with education and teaching experience. Starting minimum full- time equivalent annual academic salary is $53,402.00
