Junior – Assistant Specialist - Radio Astronomy Lab
The successful applicants will work with Aaron Parsons and Adrian Liu in the Radio Astronomy Laboratory on software development and data analysis for low-frequency radio interferometers targeting the measurement of 21cm emission from cosmic reionization.
Duties of Position
The primary responsibilities for this position are:
•Develop a software and analysis framework for constructing sky models and interpolating them to new frequencies.
•Work with experienced RAL engineers to use signal processing algorithms for data analysis.
•Work with Professor Parsons, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students to learn and apply data analysis methods to output of the experiments they construct.
•Contribute to research reports, technical papers and research papers
•Present research findings at meetings.
Basic Qualifications required at time of application:
•Undergraduate degree or equivalent foreign degree in Physics/Astronomy/Electrical Engineering or related field.
Additional Qualifications (required by start date):
•Familiarity with the fundamental concepts of Bayesian statistical analysis, programming expertise, knowledge of astronomical coordinate systems, and signal processing.
•Demonstrated communication skills for presentation of results to astronomy and engineering professionals.
•Responsible with high work ethics
• Experience with technical writing
• Knowledge of LaTeX document preparation, revision control
• Familiarity with radio observing and interferometric data analysis
• Proficiency in programming in Python and other languages
Salary and Benefits:
This is a one-year full-time position with a starting salary range of $17.99/hour (non-exempt) - $49,500 annual (exempt), commensurate with experience and qualifications, with the possibility of renewal based on performance.
