Position description

The Engineering Research Support Organization at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Jr. Specialist, in the area of computer science, at 100 percent time with an expected start date of March 1, 2016.

Job duties: Candidate will work on the Elastic Edge project, writing code for key components of the system and also design tests for these components. We expect that this person will also help out other research projects as needed, but the core of their duties will focus on the Elastic Edge, which involves both an extremely fast software packet processing engine and the control mechanisms needed to configure this engine.

Basic qualifications: Pursuing a BA degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science or related field at the time of application.

Additional qualifications:
At the time of hire the candidate must have software development skills and expertise in the design and implementation of packet processing algorithms on commodity CPUs. This includes familiarity with libraries and drivers for fast packet processing run on BSD and Linux within the Network Function Virtualization discipline. In addition, the applicant must be familiar with the ODL controller, and the OVS software switch, as well as be fluent in Python, C and Java programming.

Preferred qualifications:
Must work well with others, take direction well, and be able to meet strict deadlines with little direction.

Salary range: $36,984 - $39,444
