Position description

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering of the University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley) and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) seek applications for a joint position in the broad area of Materials Characterization. The appointment will be at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor at UC Berkeley and Faculty Scientist at LBNL with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2016.

Outstanding candidates should demonstrate the potential to build a world-class research program in materials science that exploits and advances techniques for materials characterization enabled by the unique combination of facilities at UC Berkeley and LBNL, including the Molecular Foundry and the Advanced Light Source user facilities at LBNL. It is expected that the candidate will demonstrate the potential for collaborative, interdisciplinary research within the broad materials science and engineering community at UC Berkeley and LBNL and will contribute to advancing the education mission of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering through teaching and student mentorship.

Completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation must be met by the time of application. A Ph.D. degree or equivalent degree is required by the date of appointment.
