Position description

The Sona Kang laboratory has an opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar starting March 2016. The research program focuses on transcriptional and epigenetic basis of metabolic dysregulations, in particular, obesity and type 2 diabetes. We seek to identify the core transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms underlying the conditions, validate the physiological significance, and to develop therapeutic interventions. We are applying multiple traditional wet lab techniques global profiling studies (RNA-, ChIP- and MeDIP-Seqs) in addition to metabolic characterization of mouse models. The successful candidate will lead project(s) requiring technical expertise such as metabolic characterization of mouse models, cell culture studies, and/or biochemical studies under the direction of the PI. Candidate will also be responsible to help train graduate and undergraduate students.

Basic Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed all degree requirements except the dissertation or be enrolled in an accredited PhD, MD or equivalent degree in nutritional sciences and toxicology or related fields at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
Candidates must have a PhD or MD or equivalent degree in nutritional sciences and toxicology or related fields by appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a demonstrated interest and expertise in one or more of the following areas: molecular and cell biology, metabolic phenotying of mouse models, and global profiling studies.

Appointment: The targeted start date for this position will be in March 2016. The initial appointment is for 12 months, with renewal based on performance and funding. This is a full time appointment.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is between $42,840 and $50,112/annually depending on prior experience and qualifications. Generous benefits are included (http://vspa.berkeley.edu/postdocs).
