Position description

The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a full time postdoctoral research position to conduct research on the laboratory analysis of returned cometary and interstellar dust samples from the Stardust mission. This will include, but will not be limited to, synchrotron x-ray microprobe analyses, synchrotron fourier transform infrared analyses, and transmission electron microscopy. The successful candidate will also participate in all aspects of sample handling and preparation in a cleanroom environment.

The expected start date for the appointment is between late October and December 2015. This will initially be an 18-month postdoctoral position. Extension of the appointment is subject to performance and availability of funds. Salary will be commensurate with experience; benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage are included in the compensation package.

A Ph.D. or equivalent or equivalent degree in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field is required by the start date. At the time of application, the basic minimum qualification is the completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation.

Preferred qualification: Experience with X-ray data and studies of X-ray populations.
