Position description

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking a full-time (100%) Associate Specialist (Step I, II, II or IV) to begin working this upcoming Fall 2015 in the Clark Lab.

Responsibilities:
The focus of the Associate Specialist’s work will be to employ thermostable protein building blocks to create biomolecular assemblies ranging from motor-driven turbines to biomechanical vehicles. Using his or her experience in protein expression and purification, the successful applicant will assemble recombinantly expressed and purified protein components, such as filaments and connectors, into nanoscale mechanical constructs. Another aim will be to engineer a microbial production host for programmable biosynthesis, secretion, and assembly of these nanostructures. In addition, the incumbent will prepare manuscripts for publication of research findings, attend and present seminars, and train lab members and technicians on specialty lab equipment.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications:
A PhD or equivalent in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
• At least 1 year of postdoctoral scholar experience
• Familiarity with or experience in an academic research environment
• Experience in protein expression and purification

Salary Range: $52,344 - $63,012
