Position description

The Lawrence Hall of Science (The Hall) is conducting a search for a Science Curriculum and Professional Development Specialist in the SEPUP program. SEPUP develops secondary science curriculum and provides professional development for secondary science teachers. The Hall is the University of California, Berkeley’s public science center and a national leader in science and mathematics curriculum and professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a lead curriculum developer for student materials, teacher’s guides, readings, assessments, and ancillary materials
• Participate in project and program leadership and management; develop and contribute to proposals and prepare reports for funding agencies; make presentations to academic audiences; write articles for practitioner journals; mentor junior academic staff members.
• Lead development and delivery of professional development for a wide range of education professionals in a variety of settings.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications Required:
• A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in science, science education, or a related field.
• At least 10 years professional experience in science education, including advanced degrees and/or experience teaching, research and evaluation, using technology to facilitate learning, or developing science curriculum and/or assessments; a combination of these preferred.

Additional Qualifications:
• Experience conducting professional development workshops and programs.
• Demonstrated effective leadership experience including experience as a mentor.
• Strong knowledge of science education research, policy, and pedagogy, and ability to incorporate current research and best practices into curriculum and assessment products.
• Successful experience working in a highly collaborative team environment.
• Successful experience working independently to manage science education projects.
• Strong knowledge of science education research, policy, and pedagogy.
• Experience preparing written products, reports, and/or articles for various audiences.
• Facility with office software applications.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
• M.S., PhD., or equivalent desirable.
• Secondary science teaching credential desirable.
• Demonstrated experience developing curriculum.
• Middle or high school teaching experience desirable.
• Demonstrated research and/or evaluation skills desirable.
• Publications in academic and practitioner journals desirable.
• Experience with or training in one or more of the following, desirable: working with English language learners; educational multimedia; innovative use of technology in the classroom; formative assessment; integration of science and literacy.

Appointment: One year full-­‐time, renewable dependent on budget and performance.

Salary Range: $67,656 -­‐ $83,184
