Position description

The Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking a part-time (50-75%) Assistant Specialist (Step I) to begin working this upcoming Summer 2015 in the lab of Professor Paul Alivisatos. S/he should be an expert in the synthesis and characterization of colloidal quantum dots as well as their integration into functional optoelectronic devices, including but not limited to photodetectors and solar cells. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently to formulate research objectives and carry out a research plan, but should also be willing and able to mentor and collaborate with other researchers (from graduate students through postdocs) in the lab on a variety of projects. A collaborative and helpful attitude is essential. Demonstrated excellence in research is required, including a strong publication record. Responsibilities:
• Independently generate research proposals and experimental plans with input of advisor
• Conduct experiments, analyze results, and perform independently
• Mentor, collaborate with, and be helpful to other lab members

Minimum/Basic Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a related field by time of application

Additional Qualifications:

• A record of research in the fields of nanocrystal synthesis and optoelectronic device fabrication and testing

Salary Range: $42,144 - $48,048
