Position description

The Calm Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist, under the direction of Professor Sheri Johnson to provide support for two studies of healthy eating in people with bipolar disorder.

The Assistant Project Scientist should be an expert at the scientific study of bipolar disorder, including diagnosis and symptom severity assessment, and should have experience with clinical trials.

Their primary responsibilities will include assist with the oversight and administration of a clinical trial and related research, including the following:

  • Collaborate on community outreach
  • Working with the selection of measures, and developing the intervention manual
  • Assist and take the lead with authoring presentations and publications
  • Conduct significant intellectual contributions to the team
  • facilitating recruitment and outreach internationally and locally
  • working with research assistants to screen and enroll participants in the clinical trial
  • working with research assistants to gather data and monitor progress in trial completion -conducting diagnostic, symptom severity, and other assessments as needed for trial progress
  • training and refining procedures for research staff on the conduct of reliable clinical interviews and maintaining participant records
  • supporting junior staff in managing referrals and crisis management when such needs arise
  • assisting with data management and data security, will assist with data analysis and the preparation of research for publication -Consulting about study design, measures, and analyses

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD or equivalent international degree

Preferred qualifications

-Experience with clinical trials
-Experience conducting diagnostic and symptom severity interviews
-Experience in crisis management for persons experiencing mood disorder symptoms or suicidality
-Expertise in secure data management
-Multivariate statistical skills
-Strong record of contributing to publications and presentations
-Expertise in ethics and protection of human subjects
-Licensure as a clinical psychologist
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Strong facilitation and collaboration skills
-Strong commitment to mentorship of students and junior colleagues
-Ability to interact with a diverse population and engage diverse constituencies
-Comfort in learning about international policies in diagnosis and treatment of mental health
