Position title: Assistant Project ScientistPosition description
Dr. Hei Sook Sul is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Project Scientist in the Department of Nutritional Sciences & Toxicology at the University of California, Berkeley.
The position will be focused on transcriptional regulation of adipogenesis and lipogenesis to define how UCP1 gene is activated epigenetically to promote thermogenesis for eventual prevention of obesity/type 2 diabetes.
The role will include the design and practice of both; cell-based experiments (in vitro) and animal-based experiments (in vivo).
The cell-based experiments will be based in the areas of; cell culture, various next-generation sequencing (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, Gro-seq atc.)/analysis, metabolic/lipodomic assays upon various compounds treatment, as well as cell-staining for sorting/ imaging.
The animal-based experiments will include the duties of designing and/or establishing research data sets in the areas of; specific transgenic/knockout mice model, treatment of (IP, IV, SubQ administration) of mice, tissue collection for molecular assays/analysis and metabolic/lipidomic analysis, tissue staining for histological analysis, and animal behavioral tests.

Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent international degree)
- PhD (or equivalent) with a focus in the area of Genetics
- Demonstrated experience conducting research that uses modern era "up-to date" genomics approaches to study the chromatin architecture for thermogenic gene activation
- Exposure and/or experience with the following; ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, Gro-seq atc, IP, IV, SubQ administration
