Position description

The Department of Astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applicants for one or more ladder-rank faculty positions at the ranks of Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

The basic qualifications required to be considered for this position are a Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrollment in a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications

A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree is preferred by the date of hire.

Assistant Professors - Astronomy - College of Letters & Science

Position title: Assistant Professor

Individuals should submit their application at this level if they meet one of the following conditions: Current or recent PhD candidate or graduate; current or recent postdoc; current assistant professor (including those who are “senior” assistant professors near tenure). Please note that this level determination is only for application review purposes, not the ultimate appointment level of the finalist.

  • Statement of Research - 3 pages maximum excluding references

  • Statement of Teaching - 1 page maximum

  • Statement on Contributions to Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Statement on your contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including information about your understanding of these topics, your record of activities to date, and your specific plans and goals for advancing equity and inclusion if hired at Berkeley (for additional information go to https://ofew.berkeley.edu/recruitment/contributions-diversity). 1 page maximum

  • A list of 3-5 key papers - Not entire manuscripts

  • Publication list - A complete bibliography list along with links (where possible), not entire manuscripts
