Junior/Assistant Specialist - Systems Biology - Center for Computational Biology
Position overview
Position description
The Staller lab at the Center for Computational Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, is seeking a junior or assistant specialist to conduct research in transcriptional regulation and systems biology. The Staller lab combines high-throughput experiments and machine learning to study the transcriptional activation domains, the regions of transcription factors that engage coactivators to regulate gene expression.
The Junior or Assistant Specialist Employee will join the research group of Dr. Max Staller with a focus on molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, PCR, Illumina sequencing library preparation, and human tissue culture. Experience with these techniques is not required and training will be provided. This position will also include training for constructing and assaying state-of-the-art plasmid libraries.
Responsibilities include cell culture, transfecting cells, extracting nucleic acids, creating Illumina sequencing libraries, organizing the lab, ordering reagents, maintaining the cell culture room, making media, preparing DNA for transfections. There will be opportunities for the candidate to develop computer coding skills, learn analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, and to assist driving the direction of the project.
