Position overview

Salary range: Minimum annual full-time salary rate of $62,455. Salary to be commensurate with experience. Some credit given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer session teaching).
Percent time: 11%
Anticipated start: Appointments for summer sessions are usually reviewed in February and March.
Position duration: Summer Session. The class will be taught in Summer Session D.

Position description

The Department of Film and Media at UC Berkeley seeks a Lecturer to teach a six-week summer certificate course on Entertainment Law for the departmental certificate program Film and Media Industries and Professions.

This course will introduce students to basic principles of Constitutional law, tort law, copyright law, and trademark law and their use in entertainment law. The goal of the course is to equip students interested in legal studies with an overview of entertainment law and practitioners in film and media with an understanding of entertainment law sufficient to recognize legal issues that may arise in their practice. This course counts towards the UCB Breadth Requirement in Philosophy and Values and towards the Summer Sessions Certificate in Film & Media Industries and Professions.

Responsibilities:
The instructor for the course will be responsible for preparing lecture content, leading class discussions, and evaluating student writing, projects, and exams. In addition to these teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and campus web- based course resources.

For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level in the U.S. and/or experience practicing entertainment law
• Degree in Film and Media or Legal Studies/Entertainment Law (or related field)
