Position overview
Position title: Associate SpecialistPosition description
The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley is recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in Molecular and Cell Biology. The University of California, Berkeley is a leading research university dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate-level education in a broad range of disciplines. We are seeking an Associate Specialist ( Bioinformatics Scientist/Computational Biologist) for the Hockemeyer lab. The candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary group funded by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) aimed at understanding how genetic differences between individuals create variability in cellular function and ultimately disease susceptibility.
Responsibilities:
Develop analysis pipelines for studies generating high-throughput genomics data, including single-cell and bulk RNA-seq and perturb-seq data. Use and/or adapt existing computational pipelines and algorithms and write code to process and analyze genomic data sets, generate reports, and present the results to collaborators and funders. Work from standard analysis pipelines and learn to modify code to fit individual projects involving gene expression levels, RNA splicing and cell type-identifying signatures. Interact closely with the ASAP team members and train personnel to analyze genome-wide datasets. Collaborate with other bioinformaticians doing similar work at UC, Berkeley, UCSF and elsewhere across the ASAP consortium network.
