The Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach the following courses should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester including summer sessions, depending upon the needs of the Department. Positions may range from 33% to 100% time.
Due to COVID-19 UC Berkeley may begin the fall semester with fully remote instruction. UC Berkeley is prepared to implement hybrid and/or flexible modes of instruction as soon as public health conditions allow. Remote instruction requires an online course to be designed from the outset for delivery via distance-learning methods. Instructors must have internet access and be prepared to adjust pedagogical approaches with a remote setting and use new teaching tools. Department policy requires instructors to create and maintain a bcourses site.

STATISTICS 131A: Statistical Methods for Data Science
STATISTICS 133: Concepts in Computing with Data
STATISTICS 134: Concepts of Probability
STATISTICS 135: Concepts of Statistics
STATISTICS 150: Stochastic Processes
STATISTICS 151A: Linear Modeling: Theory and Applications
STATISITICS 153: Time Series
STATISTICS 154: Modern Statistical Prediction and Machine Learning
STATISTICS 155: Game Theory
STATISTICS 159: Reproducible and Collaborative Statistical Data Science
General duties include developing syllabi, lecturing, writing assignments, writing and grading exams, supervising teaching assistants, holding office hours, and maintaining a course website. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications (at time of application):
The minimum qualification to be considered an applicant for the position is the completion of a PhD (or equivalent international degree).
An alternate minimum qualification at the time of application is the completion of a Masters degree (or equivalent international degree) and evidence of significant experience in pedagogy at the college level.
PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field. Documented experience in teaching Statistics or a related field at the college level.
The minimum current rate is $56,381, based on a two-semester, 100%-time appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience. Some credit is given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer session teaching).
UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.
