The Institute for Business and Social Impact at Haas at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee (Title Code 3252), with expertise in fintech, financial services, and financial inclusion, at 100% full-time with an expected start date of as soon as possible.
This position is funded for two years. It is full-time for a one-year term with renewal contingent on performance. (Salary will be commensurate with experience).
The Fellow will be part of Berkeley’s newly formed Fintech and Financial Inclusion Initiative (FFII), housed jointly in the Haas School of Business and the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA). The Initiative’s mission is to generate a portfolio of rigorous academic research that informs and inspires innovation in fintech and financial services for unbanked and vulnerable populations, and the growth of small and medium enterprises. Paul Gertler, Haas School of Business, and Joshua Blumenstock, School of Information, co-direct FFII. Faculty from the departments of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Economics, the Haas Business School, and the Information School are affiliated with the initiative. As part of FFII, the fellow will have the opportunity to study issues related to financial inclusion both on the household and firm side using novel administrative datasets and field experiments with engaged industry partners.
• Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) granting program at the time of application.
• Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) required by start date.
Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) by start date in economics, finance, and related fields who are interested in studying themes related to fintech, financial services, and financial inclusion are invited to apply.
Scholars with strengths in applied microeconometrics, field experiments, and applied data science (including machine learning and computational methods for working with unstructured data) are particularly encouraged.
