Position description

Assistant Project Scientist - The Hsu Lab

The Hsu Laboratory in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist in the area of Genome Engineering. Our research aims to understand and manipulate the genetic circuits that control brain and immune cell function to improve human health. To do this, our group draws from a palette of technologies including CRISPR-Cas, engineered viruses, genome sequencing, massively parallel reporter assays, and pooled genetic screens. Projects in the lab include developing new genome editing modalities, CRISPR detection of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19, and high-throughput genetic screens.

This is a full time position at 100% time for one year. The appointment may be renewed depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Duties of Position Include:

• The Assistant Project Scientist will work as part of an NIH-funded team to invent molecular technologies for genome editing and nucleic acid detection, working primarily in the areas of molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry/engineering, and next-generation sequencing. The project aims to enable new approaches for gene and cell-based therapeutics and nucleic acid detection, e.g. for COVID-19.
• Conduct experiments involving molecular technology development, genome editing, and applications in functional genomics and gene/cell therapy
• Assist with the Principal Investigator (PI) to help achieve long-term goals for the laboratory by working with lab members, collaborators, and granting agencies
