The Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a full-time (100%) Postdoctoral Scholar Employee, in the area of cosmic microwave background (CMB) Observations with an appointment start date between April 2020 and June 2020.

The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position to work on the LiteBIRD cosmic microwave background (CMB) space-mission. The postdoctoral fellow will work on developing the 100mK TES bolometer detector system. The postdoctoral scholar will help to design and build the focal-plane arrays and assist with integration and test of these focal-plane arrays. The fellow will also work on integration and test of the cryogenic SQUID multiplexer detector readout.

Basic qualifications (at time of application):

  • PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree program

Additional Qualification ( by start date of position):

  • PhD (or equivalent international degree)
  • No more than three years of post-degree research experience
  • Experience with cryogenic detector systems and with sub-Kelvin cryogenics

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics or related discipline
  • Experience with sub-Kelvin temperature TES detectors readout by SQUIDs
  • Experience with cosmic microwave background experiment
  • Experience with mm-wave optics and techniques

This position reports to Professor Adrian Lee, and is at full time (100%) for two years, with the possibility for a third-year extension depending on the availability of funds. This position is in a represented bargaining unit.
