Position description

The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Jr Specialist in the Rape Lab, to conduct research in the area of myoblast differentiation.

Responsibilities:

This position involves research requiring the application of molecular biology, perform routine FACS based degradation assays to monitor the stability of reporter constructs, to perform support with cloning and other general molecular biology approaches, and to help lab members maintain lab databases required for efficient plasmid and cell line generation. as described above, as well as FACS, immunofluorescence microscopy, affinity chromatography and Western blotting, as well as mass spectrometry. This position includes ordering duties for the lab.

Basic Qualifications (required at the time of application):
Enrolled in Bachelor's Degree or equivalent international degree program.

Additional Qualifications (required by start date):
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent international degree program.

Preferred Qualifications (required by start date):
Bachelor Degree or equivalent international degree in Molecular and Cell Biology or related field. Ability to perform routine FACS based degradation assays.

Appointment:
This position reports to Dr. Michael Rape. The initial appointment will be at 100% time for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Salary and Benefits: This position provides full benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on UC Berkeley Specialist series salary scale.
