Position description

The Earth & Planetary Science Department at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research positions in the field of physics at extreme conditions in Prof. B. Militzer's group (http://militzer.berkeley.edu) starting in spring 2020. The positions are for two years, full time, with renewal for a third year contingent on performance and funding. The positions will be open until filled.

The Physics at Extreme Conditions project is focused on first-principles computer simulations of materials at high pressures and temperatures. Path integral Monte Carlo and density functional molecular dynamics simulations will be performed to characterize the equation of state, melting curves, phase relations, and to compare with ongoing experimental work. Results will be applied to model the interiors and evolution of rocky and giant planets.

Selected postdocs may participate in joint projects with assigned faculty mentor or conduct independent research.

Basic/Minimum Qualification (at the time of application): PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree program.

Additional Qualification (by the start date): A PhD degree or equivalent international degree is required by the start date and experience in computer simulations.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD degree or equivalent international degree in physics, planetary science, astrophysics, geophysics, or related fields.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
