Position description

The Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in our department should an opening arise. These are not tenure-track positions - selected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Instructors teaching one course with three hours of lecture per week will normally be appointed at 33% time during the semester; exact percentages depend on contact hours and other assigned duties. Due to budget restrictions, no funding is available for visa or relocation expenses.
In addition to lecturing responsibilities, general duties for these positions typically include managing and supporting Graduate Student Instructors, holding office hours, running laboratories and demonstrations, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.
Basic qualifications: Bachelor's or equivalent international degree at the time of application.
Additional qualifications: The following additional qualifications are required by the start date of the job. Advanced degree or five years teaching and/or industry experience.
Preferred qualifications: : Advanced degree. Also preferred: teaching experience. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.A.
Salary Range: $61,930 -$162,227. Starting salary will be commensurate with degrees currently held, past college-level teaching, industry experience and equity within the department. Contact information for two references is required.
