The Department of Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses pending openings. These include courses on topics such as: Introduction to Gender and Women's Studies, Women in American Cultures, Alternate Sexualities in a Transnational World, Gender and Pop Culture, Global Issues for Women, Sexualities, Gender in American Cultures: "She is not American...or is she?” Gender, Race and Sexuality in American Immigrant Cultures.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.
Applicants interested in remaining in the department’s lecturer pool beyond September 17, 2020 must reapply to a new search pool. Typically the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in February and March, and applications for spring teaching in September and October and for the summer in February and March (if applicable). Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. The pool will remain open for one calendar year.
Positions may range from 33% to 67% time (one to two courses). Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester), and appointments may be renewable based on the Program’s need, funding, and on lecturer performance.
Basic Qualifications (at time of application):
The minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is completion of at least a Master’s or equivalent international degree by time of application.
Additional Qualifications (by the start date):
For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.
The Preferred Qualifications:
A PhD and prior teaching experience.

Salary commensurate with education and teaching experience. Starting minimum fulltime equivalent annual academic salary is $56,381.00.
UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.
