Junior/Assistant Specialist

Description:

Research in the Healy Lab at the University of California, Berkeley emphasizes the relationship between materials and the cells or tissues they contact. The research program focuses on the design and synthesis of bioinspired materials that actively direct the fate of mammalian cells, and facilitate regeneration of damaged tissues and organs. Major discoveries from his laboratory have centered on the control of cell fate and tissue formation in contract with materials that are tunable in both their biological content and mechanical properties. Professor Healy also has extensive experience with human stem cell technologies, microphysiological systems, drug delivery systems, and novel bioconjugate therapeutics

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to conduct scientific research concerning the development of human induced pluripotent stem cell-based organ chip technology. Specific laboratory duties include but are not limited to: device microfabrication, optimization, and characterization; on chip drug screening studies; general laboratory duties such as lab maintenance and EH&S reporting; and, assistance in the preparation of manuscripts for submission to scientific journals. The candidate will execute supervised research, including experimental design, data analysis, and draw scientific conclusions from their research. The candidate will directly report to Professor Healy. The candidate is also expected to participate in collaborations with other laboratory members.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree or enrolled in Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree program.

Additional Qualifications must be met by the start of the job:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Bioengineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Technical experience in microfabrication strongly preferred, specifically in soft lithography and replica molding.

Salary: This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
