Position description

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track) in nineteenth-century Russian literature, with an expected starting date of July 1, 2020.

The Department seeks candidates whose primary specialization is in Russian literature and culture of the long nineteenth century. We welcome applicants whose focus is Russian realism and/or Russian culture of the late imperial period. Candidates with interdisciplinary interests are also encouraged to apply.

Required minimum qualification at the time of application:

• PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program.

Preferred qualifications:

• Completion of the Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) strongly preferred by the start date of the position.
• Native or near-native competence in Russian and in English.
• Demonstrated research, teaching, and administrative abilities.

First-round interviews will be held at the ASEEES convention November 23 - 26, 2019 in San Francisco, CA -- or by Skype if necessary. Candidates selected for these interviews will be notified as soon as possible in advance of the convention. While in-person interviews are preferred, candidates will not be disqualified for not attending the conference.
