The Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at the University of California, Berkeley which is part of the department of Industrial Engineering Operations Research at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking an Associate/Full Specialist to assist faculty and researchers in the X-lab. The candidate will perform work under Professor Ikhlaq Sidhu.

The X-Lab will implement Data-X. Data-X is a framework designed at UC Berkeley for learning and applying AI, data science, and emerging technologies. Data-X fills a gap between theory and practice to empower the rapid development of data and AI projects that actually work. Data-X projects create new ventures, new research, and corporate innovations all over the world. The Data-X framework is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, by exposing students to state-of-the-art implementation techniques and mindsets. Data-X offers (a) Rapid learning and implementation of AI and Data-related projects, (b) Covers the open-source software tools needed for these types of projects, (c) Develops the necessary mindset and behaviors to deliver innovative projects within a real-life development process, (d) Brings together students, faculty, new ventures, and large firms so they can learn from each other in a manner that is both technically deep and yet broad, and (e) Lectures, code samples, slides, references and everything needed for real life projects and education all in one place. The DataX lab supports the popular UC Berkeley course 'Applied Data Science with Venture Applications', commonly known as the 'DataX' class, educating hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students each year.

Appointment length:
This is a part-time position at 50% time for 1 year. The appointment may be renewable depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Anticipated start date is Fall 2019.

Responsibilities:
• Provide technical guidance in research programming and academic content development for Sutardja Center’s X-Labs at international facilities and global partners.
• Offer specialized research and academic guidance to partner university programs and partner X-lab programs in areas of Data, AI, Blockchain, and other X-lab focus areas.
• In close coordination with the Faculty Director, administer international SCET research, industry, and academic projects with established and prospective academic and executive partners.
• Under the guidance of the Faculty Director, facilitate recruitment of research and academic personnel for projects.
• Provide cross-communication at a technical level between SCET Research on Berkeley campus and research and academic projects at global partner locations.
• Collaborate with SCET Chief Scientist and Faculty Director, on the new iteration of Data-X research program.
• Collaborate with the Faculty Director on the integration of research into course development and curriculum and instructor content development.
• Collaborate on the development of academic programs associated with international 'X-Labs' and SCET Global partners.
• Travel to locations of partners to provide on-site guidance and research connections.

Minimum Basic Qualifications (by time of application):
• Bachelors degree or equivalent international degree

Additional Qualifications (by start date):
• Master's degree or equivalent international degree plus three additional years experience or bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree plus five additional years experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's or equivalent degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Industrial engineering, or in a related field.
• Hands-on implementation skills with open source ML stack tools such as Python, Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow/Keras, and general full stack development capabilities.
• Data, AI theoretical background on algorithms and data science approaches.
• System architecture experience.
• Experience in teaching topics related to data science, artificial intelligence, blockchain, or related fields at the college level
• Experience with Agile development
• Candidate should be highly applied and yet theoretically knowledgeable in Data, AI, and possibly also Blockchain related areas.
• Blockchain and distributed ledger background including code implementation
• Experience with entrepreneurship practice and/or entrepreneurship pedagogy.

Salary:
The full-time annual salary will be commensurate with experience.
