Associate Specialist (Step I-IV)/Full Specialist (Step I-IV) – Next Generation Sequencing – Innovative Genomics Institute – Center for Translational Genomics

The Innovative Genomics Institute at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Specialist in the Center for Translational Genomics, in the area of next generation sequencing. The specialist will be responsible for performing and overseeing tasks related to genomic analysis of genome edited cells for preclinical research, including preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries and development and implementation of genomic assays for preclinical and clinical research. They will draft and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and other documents that control genomic analysis procedures within the Center for Translational Genomics. The position will require a high level of independence and expertise in NGS, and will serve as a significant source of scientific expertise to projects aiming to use sequencing to assay genome editing results. The sequencing specialist will develop and maintain assays for protein content of edited cell samples, perform gene editing, and culture human cells for protocol and process development. The position will involve scientific contributions to multiple projects with collaborators across the IGI and will require the ability to innovate, design, and troubleshoot projects independently. The approximate start date will be in June 2019.

Basic Qualifications (At the time of application):
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent international degree.

Additional Qualifications (By start date):
At least five (5) years of laboratory expertise in DNA sequencing or genome editing.

Preferred Qualifications (By start date):
• Experience with preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries for Illumina sequencing, including QC of libraries with a Fragment Analyzer or Bioanalyzer.
• Experience with genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9
• Experience culturing and manipulating human cells
• Experience with standard molecular biology techniques including PCR, electrophoresis
• Experience with standard cell biology techniques such as western blot and ELISA
• Experience culturing and manipulating human hematopoietic stem cells (HSPCs)
• Experience in laboratory automation/ liquid handler operation
• Experience in preclinical research, including Good Laboratory Practices
• Experience in regulated manufacturing, including Good Manufacturing Practice
• Experience training and managing laboratory personnel

Appointment:
This position reports to Dr. Brian Staskawicz. The initial appointment will be at 100% time for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Salary and Benefits:
$56,400– $100,600 commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on UC Berkeley Specialist series salary scale. This position provides full benefits.
