The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for full-time (100%) Postdoctoral Scholars with an appointment start date in the Spring of 2019.

The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is a non-profit, academic research organization formed through the partnership of UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco and located on the UC Berkeley campus. A key focus of the IGI is accelerating translation of CRISPR-Cas-based approaches to the clinic.

Position Description:
The IGI is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, independent-minded postdoctoral fellow interested in pursuing a research project – a collaboration between Jonathan Weissman, Jennifer Doudna, and Fyodor Urnov – to develop and advance next-generation CRISPR-based approaches to control the hematopoietic system in the clinic. The successful candidate will lead efforts to apply cutting edge functional genomics approaches ex vivo and in vivo to identify molecular circuits of relevance to particular areas of severe unmet medical need; collaborate on developing clinic-ready approaches to engage those circuits ; and collaborate on preclinical efficacy and safety studies to enable first-in-human clinical trials.

The Postdoctoral scholar will compare potency, durability, and specificity of target gene regulation effect driven by Cas9- vs TAL effector-based regulators vs zinc finger protein-based regulators under the guidance of their supervisor. This individual also will develop, prototype and make new protocols, review and/or draft documents and SOPs, and disseminate project results.

Basic Qualifications (must be met at the time of application):
Candidates must have completed all degree requirements except the dissertation or be enrolled in an accredited PhD, MD or equivalent international degree.

Additional Qualifications (must be met by start date):
Candidates must have PhD, MD, or equivalent international degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with some combination of models of human hematopoiesis, CRISPR-Cas , and functional genomics is preferred but not required.

Starting salary will commensurate with experience. This position provides full benefits .
