The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a full-time (100%) Postdoctoral Scholar with an appointment start date in the Spring of 2019.
The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is a non-profit, academic research organization formed through the partnership of UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco and located on the UC Berkeley campus. A key focus of the IGI is accelerating translation of CRISPR-Cas-based approaches to the clinic.
The IGI is seeking to recruit highly motivated, independent-minded post-doctoral fellows interested in pursuing a fully funded 4-year research project – a collaboration between Jonathan Weissman, Jennifer Doudna, and Fyodor Urnov – to develop and advance next-generation CRISPR-based approaches to control the hematopoietic system in the clinic. Successful candidates will lead efforts to apply cutting edge functional genomics approaches ex vivo and in vivo to identify molecular circuits of relevance to particular areas of severe unmet medical need; collaborate on developing clinic-ready approaches to engage those circuits; and collaborate on preclinical efficacy and safety studies to enable first-in-human clinical trials. Ample mentorship and support will be provided for the entire duration of the project.
The Postdoctoral scholar will provide day-to-day oversight of the Staff Research Associate. This individual will supervise the generation and analysis of genotyping data, additional xenografting experiments and toxicology study support using existing protocols. This individual also will develop, prototype and make new protocols, review and/or draft documents and SOPs, and draft and disseminate project results.
Basic Qualifications (at the time of application):
Candidates must have completed all degree requirements except the dissertation or be enrolled in an accredited PhD, MD or international equivalent.
Additional Qualifications (must be met by start date):
Candidates must have PhD, MD or equivalent international degree.
Preferred Qualifications (must be met by start date):
Hands-on experience with some combination of models of human hematopoiesis, CRISPR-Cas, and functional genomics is preferred but not required.
