Postdoctoral Scholar – Astronomy Department

The UC Berkeley Astronomy Department invites applicants for a postdoctoral research position to work with Prof. Jessica R. Lu and her research group in the areas of resolved stellar populations and/or adaptive optics. Research areas currently being pursued by the group include: (1) the Galactic center, (2) adaptive optics instrumentation and PSF reconstruction methods, and (3) young star clusters, star formation, and the IMF. Candidates in all areas of stellar populations and optical/infrared instrumentation are encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate with other members of the Galactic Center Group (headquartered at UCLA) and adaptive optics instrument teams at the W. M. Keck Observatory, TMT, and the UH Institute for Astronomy. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to mentor students, interact with UC Berkeley faculty, design and implement new lab experiments, and participate in observing programs using University of California facilities (Keck and Lick).

The position, starting in 2019 Fall or 2020 Spring, is for two years, full time, with renewal for a third year contingent on performance and funding. This position will be open until filled.

Basic/Minimum Qualification (at the time of application): Candidates must have completed all PhD or equivalent international degree requirements except the dissertation.
Additional Qualification (by the start date): A PhD degree or equivalent international degree.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD or equivalent international degree in astrophysics or physics.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $50,740 - $61,308, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
