The University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Director of the Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) with Associate or Full Professor faculty appointments in the Graduate School of Education (GSE) and a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) department. The expected start date is July 1, 2019.
The Lawrence Hall of Science is the University of California, Berkeley‘s public science center. This distinctive affiliation allows the Hall to engage world-class scientists, engineers, and educators in developing and disseminating the most innovative and effective STEM programs available today. The Hall’s mission is to inspire and foster science learning for all, especially those who have limited access to science. Every year, the Hall reaches more than 12 million young people around the world with STEM learning experiences. The Hall also engages thousands of educators, nationally and internationally, in high-quality professional learning programs, and increases access to science learning through digital tools for students and educators. This portfolio of programs is diverse and far-reaching, and makes an important contribution to the local and national need to inspire, prepare, and diversify generations of scientists and scientifically literate citizens.
The successful candidate will have an established scholarly record in science education, a background in one or more of the STEM disciplines, and a demonstrated ability to lead a large public-facing, research organization.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree or equivalent international degree in a STEM field (including STEM education, cognitive science, or learning science), along with leadership and fundraising experience at time of application.
Candidates who will advance diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service are strongly preferred.
