Position description

The Department of History of Art at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary non-tenure track Lecturer positions to teach courses in History of Art. These courses include, but are not limited to, courses in Contemporary Art, Greek and Roman Art and Architecture, European Art, American Art, Asian Art and the art of other Non-Western regions, Reading and Composition and Digital Humanities.

Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one calendar year, beginning with the Fall 2018 semester. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the Department. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and campus web-based course resources.

Minimum Basic Qualifications (by the time of application):
Completion of all Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) requirements except dissertation in Art History, or a related field.

Additional Qualifications (by start date):
Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Art History or a related field; for Reading and Composition teaching, experience teaching college composition required.

Preferred Qualifications (by start date):
Relevant college-level teaching experience preferred.

Salary:
Minimum annual full-time salary rate of $54,738. Salary to be commensurate with experience. Some credit given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer session teaching).
