Position description

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track/tenured position as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Luso-Brazilian Literature and Culture (specialization open), expected start date of 1 July 2018. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Luso-Brazilian literature and culture.

Basic Qualifications (by time of application): Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must have completed all Ph.D requirements except the doctoral dissertation or the equivalent at the time of application; applicants for an Associate/Full Professor position must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in Luso-Brazilian Literature and Culture or a related field at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications: At the assistant level, preference will be given to applicants demonstrating clear evidence of scholarly potential in research. For Assistant Professor applicants, a PhD or equivalent degree in Luso-Brazilian Literature and Culture or related field must be held within six months of the appointment start date. At the Associate/Full Professor level, preference will be given to applicants with a distinguished record of research and publications. At all levels, native or near-native fluency in Portuguese and English, and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
